«La rebelión de las masas» is the sociological essay by philosopher José Ortega y Gasset, published by Plaza & Janés in hardback (205 pages, in Spanish).
Ortega y Gasset analyses the irruption of the masses into twentieth-century public life and its impact on culture and politics. He describes a «man-mass» who accepts rights without obligations, imposes his tastes and drags along the ruling minorities, with the consequent risk of uniformity, mediocrity and decline of Western civilisation.
The edition includes a prologue by Julián Marías and the book falls under the thematic category of Philosophy.
For those interested in social philosophy, Spanish thought and the sociology of contemporary culture.
