Little Dorrit tells the story of a young woman whose father has been imprisoned for debt for many years; in fact, she was born in prison and grew up there, although she can leave whenever she chooses. Meanwhile, the story also follows the life of Arthur Clennam, a man who has spent years working in the family business abroad and returns to London with the intention of changing his life completely. Arthur meets Amy Dorrit at his mother's house, where she has been hired as a seamstress, and learns of the girl's unfortunate history. Soon, both characters will realize that their lives have much in common, and their fortunes will change as events unfold.
