In 1479 BC, the supreme judge of Thebes, Amerotke, is faced with a series of seemingly insoluble riddles. Within the sacred enclosure of the temple of Anubis, a priest and a dancer have been murdered, and the Glory of Anubis, the imposing amethyst that adorned the god's statue, has been stolen.
