«La magnitud de la tragèdia» is a novel by Quim Monzó published by Quaderns Crema in paperback (280 pages, in Catalan).
A trumpeter finally manages to go out with the star of the theatre where he works and, to pluck up courage, drinks more than he should; so drunk, he fears he won't measure up. From there, the novel reflects on love, hatred, loneliness, the inexorable passage of time and the inevitability of death.
The work is number 20 in the Biblioteca Mínima collection. The edition is the second and was published on 19 April 2011. The novel won the Premi de Novel·la El Temps in 1989.
