In 1954, young psychiatrist Germán Velázquez returns to Spain to work in the women's asylum of Ciempozuelos, Madrid. There, he meets Aurora Rodríguez Carballeira, a paranoid and highly intelligent parricide who fascinated him in his youth, and meets María Castejón, a nursing assistant whom Aurora taught to read and write. Germán is attracted to María, but does not understand her rejection and suspects that she is hiding secrets. Together, they will try to give each other a chance in a country marked by the post-war period and puritanism, where sins become crimes and abuses are covered up by official morality. This novel is the most intense and emotional of the cycle of Episodes of an Interminable War.

Madrid novelist, author of The Ages of Lulu, The Frozen Heart and the series Episodes of an Endless War.
