«La conferencia de los animales» is Erich Kästner's children's fable, published by Alfaguara in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
The animals, fed up with the wars and destruction caused by humans, convene an assembly to achieve peace, above all in the name of their young. The elephant makes the first call and a large group gathers at a hotel to try to stop the disaster. A satire with humour and symbolism that depicts a utopia of understanding.
Translation by Carmen Seco and illustrations by Walter Trier. The work was first published in 1949 as «Die Konferenz der Tiere».
For children and young adult audiences; adults can also enjoy reading it.
