«La conferencia de los animales» is Erich Kästner's children's fable, published by Alfaguara in paperback (128 pages, in Spanish).
The lion Alois, the elephant Óscar and the giraffe Leopoldo, fed up with humans only causing wars and suffering, call a great animal assembly to demand peace. With humour, irony and fantasy, the fable presents a pacifist utopia in which dialogue between species points adults towards a better world for children.
The original title, «Die Konferenz der Tiere», was published in 1949; this Spanish edition appeared in 1993.
A children's and young adult classic, suitable for readers of about eight and for adults interested in a work with a pacifist background.

Emil Erich Kästner was a German writer, poet, screenwriter and satirist, known primarily for his humorous, socially astute poems and for children's books including Emil and the Detectives and Lisa and Lottie.
