«La cocina cristiana de Occidente» is Álvaro Cunqueiro's essay on the history of gastronomy, published by Maxi-Tusquets in paperback (288 pages).
The book traces the history and culture of the Christian West through its cuisine: from austerity and prohibition came transgression, and monarchs, warriors and clerics cultivated ever more sophisticated pleasures for centuries. Cunqueiro combines erudition, humour, anecdotes and his own inventions on the culinary art and wine.
This work is number 327 in the Fábula collection and was published in June 2011; text in Spanish.
For readers interested in the history of gastronomy and Western culture, and for followers of Cunqueiro's work.
