«La Centrale» is the novel by Élisabeth Filhol, published by Gallimard in paperback (132 pages, in French).
A novel about temporary workers who go to a French nuclear power station during the annual reactor shutdown. They come from all over France and neighbouring countries and approach in concentric circles, up to the reactor building, where a work contract is enough to get in. Loïc gets one in Lorient and the narrator decides to follow him.
Novel originally published in France in 2010; this edition from Gallimard's Folio collection dates from 2011.
Recommended for readers of contemporary social fiction interested in temporary work and the world of nuclear energy.
