«La amante de Bolzano» is the historical novel by Sándor Márai, published by Quinteto, S.L. in paperback (288 pages, in Spanish).
The novel pits two male characters and a woman against each other in a tense clash of words and psychology that time has made inevitable. At its centre, Giacomo Casanova appears as more than the celebrated Venetian adventurer: he is the archetype of a man without scruples who, obsessed with finding happiness, ends up destroying the path to it.
Originally published in 1940 under the title «Vendégjáték Bolzanóban»; translation by Judit Xantus Szarvas.
For readers of historical fiction and twentieth-century European literature.
