«Jamais sans ma fille» is the autobiographical account by Betty Mahmoody and William Hoffer, published by France Loisirs in hardback (402 pages, in French).
In August 1984, Betty Mahmoody, a Michigan housewife, travels with her husband to Iran for a two-week holiday that ends in captivity. She and her four-year-old daughter, Mahtob, are left at the mercy of a husband devoted to his Shia faith in a country hostile to Americans; their only way out seems to be an underground network that refuses to take the child.
The edition is from 1990 and the text is translated into French from English.
For readers of real-life testimonies and survival stories, especially those seeking tales of mothers in contexts of oppression.

Betty Mahmoody is an American author and public speaker. In 1984, during a visit to Iran with her husband and daughter, he refused to let them return to the United States, holding them captive in Iran and subjecting them to constant abuse until she escaped with her daughter to Turkey in 1986. After she and her daughter returned to the US and after her divorce to Moody, she garnered media attention in 1987 when she published Not Without My Daughter, a memoir recounting her captivity in Iran. MGM-Pathé Communications adapted her memoir into a film in 1991.
