«Il segreto della casa sul cortile» is a historical children's and young adult novel by Lia Levi, published by Mondadori in paperback (140 pages, in Italian).
In 1943, when the Germans enter Rome, young Piera and her Jewish family must go into hiding because of the racial laws. They do not flee the city: they move to a tiny flat in a large building, with a courtyard that looks like a square, and adopt the surname Sergi to blend in with the neighbours. As the bombings arrive and uncertainty grows, Piera will have to conceal her true identity.
It belongs to the Oscar junior collection and is set in occupied Rome in 1943-1944.
Reading for young people aged 10 and over, interested in the history of Italy and the Second World War.
