«Il fantasma di Canterville» is Oscar Wilde's ghost story, published by Demetra in paperback (96 pages, in Italian).
An American family settles in Canterville Chase, an English mansion where the ghost of a nobleman who died centuries ago still roams. Far from being intimidated, the new tenants turn cohabitation with the apparition into an amusing chronicle of clashes between the New and Old Worlds, with irony and emotion.
The story was originally published in 1887. This Italian edition of 1994, subtitled «Racconto material-idealistico», belongs to the Acquarelli collection and includes the translation by Bettina Della Casa.
A short classic by Oscar Wilde, for readers of 19th-century literature who appreciate humour, ghosts and social criticism.

Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish author, poet and playwright. After writing in different literary styles throughout the 1880s, he became one of the most popular and influential dramatists in London in the early 1890s. He was a key figure in the emerging Aestheticism movement of the late 19th century and is widely regarded as the greatest playwright of the Victorian era. Wilde is best known for his Gothic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), his epigrams, plays and bedtime stories for children, as well as his criminal conviction in 1895 for gross indecency and for practicing homosexual acts.
