«Gâteau surprise» is Claude Huguenin's collection of children's stories, published by Récréalire in paperback (48 pages, in French).
The volume brings together two tales for early readers. In «Gâteau surprise», madame i invites Petit Malin and the gulu to eat; she has prepared chips and a delicious dessert, but the gulu complicates everything. In «Un invité non désiré», Petit Malin celebrates his birthday and all goes well until someone knocks at the door. The texts use large print and colour codes to help recognise the different spellings of the same sound.
It belongs to the «Plaisir de lire!» collection from the La planète des Alphas universe and is at level 3 of the Les Alphas reading method, aimed at children aged 6 and over.
Recommended for children starting to read in French, especially those following or supplementing the Les Alphas method at home or at school.
