«Final Judgements» is a collection of aphorisms by writer Joan Fuster, published by Fum d'Estampa Press in paperback (200 pages, in English).
A collection of aphorisms written between 1950 and 1960 in which Joan Fuster uses the tradition of the genre not to fix certainties but to question inherited notions of common sense. With a tone combining seriousness and humour, the author strips language of artifice, highlights its contradictions and leaves the reader with an impression of playful lucidity, closely tied to the Mediterranean temperament.
English translation by Mary Ann Newman; the aphorisms were written between 1950 and 1960.
For readers interested in moral philosophy, wit and Catalan literature in translation.

Joan Fuster i Ortells was an influential Catalan writer. He is considered a major writer in the Valencian language, and his work contributed to reinvigorate left-wing, pro-Catalan nationalism in Valencia during the Spanish transition to democracy. In his influential political essay Nosaltres, els valencians (1962) he coined the term Països Catalans to refer to the Catalan-speaking territories.
