«Elmar» is the children's story by David McKee, published by Thienemann in hardback (32 pages, in German).
Elmar is an elephant with a multicoloured checkered skin, cheerful and witty, loved among the jungle animals. Even so, he wishes to be grey like the others and hatches a plan to fit in. In the end he understands that his different appearance is exactly what makes him special and that the others appreciate him as he is.
It belongs to the 'Elmer' series by David McKee. This is the mini edition (Mini-Bilderbuch), published in 2004.
Recommended for children from 3-4 years old, it serves as a read-aloud and for talking about diversity and self-acceptance.
David John McKee, was a British writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books and animations.
