«El viaje de Mina» is the novel by Michael Ondaatje, published by Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial in paperback (288 pages, in Spanish).
In the 1950s, Michael, a boy nicknamed Mina, travels by ocean liner to England. At the «cat's table» he shares the voyage with an eccentric group and two young people; at night they observe a chained prisoner, while the enigmatic Emily awakens his desire. The story jumps to adulthood and contrasts the magic of childhood with the melancholy of knowledge.
Novel translated from English (original title: The Cat's Table), originally published in 2011 and nominated for several awards, including the Hammett Prize and the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
For readers of literary fiction and coming-of-age novels, with an interest in stories of sea voyages and characters who grow.
Philip Michael Ondaatje is a Ceylon-born Canadian poet, fiction writer and essayist.
