«El segrest de la bibliotecària» is the children's picture book by Margaret Mahy, illustrated by Quentin Blake, published by Viena in hardback (64 pages, in Catalan).
A gang of thieves kidnaps Miss Ernestina Laburnum, convinced that the town council will pay a ransom for the village librarian. The plan gets complicated because of measles, an earthquake, the police and, above all, the books, which end up turning the kidnappers into voracious readers.
This title is number 21 in the El jardí secret collection. The Catalan translation is by Teresa Guilleumes and the original edition was published in 1976.
Recommended for early readers aged 8 and up, especially for those who enjoy humorous stories about the power of books.
