«El Príncipe» is the political philosophy treatise by Nicolás Maquiavelo, published by Planeta in paperback (160 pages, in Spanish).
El Príncipe is an essential treatise on political thought: it analyses how to gain and hold power and proposes a politics autonomous from morality, guided by utility, force and cunning. It examines the role of fortune and audacity in the ruler and offers a realistic view of leadership, with historical examples and no idealisation.
Originally published in 1532 as «Il principe». 1983 edition in Spanish, with introduction, translation and notes by Francisco Javier Alcántara, in the Colección Universales no. 56 from Planeta.
For students and readers of political philosophy, history and classics; a reference work on power in Western thought.

Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli was a Florentine diplomat, author, philosopher, and historian who lived during the Italian Renaissance. He is best known for his political treatise The Prince, written around 1513 but not published until 1532, five years after his death. He has often been called the father of modern political philosophy and political science.
