In 1932, at Cold Mountain Penitentiary, death row inmates await their turn in the electric chair. One of them is John Coffey, a giant and enigmatic man convicted of murdering the Detterick twins. As the death row guards observe his strange behavior, doubts begin to arise about his guilt. It is the first installment of a suspense series originally published in serial form.
