«El móvil» is the short novel by Javier Cercas, published by Tusquets Editores in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
Álvaro, an ambitious writer, wants to create the definitive work and trusts in discipline, not inspiration. To give verisimilitude to a crime, he observes his neighbours: a young couple, a mean-spirited retiree and a concierge. His obsession drives him to provoke in real life what he imagined: reality is not as governable as a novel.
Javier Cercas's first short novel, originally published in 1987 and reissued in 2003 in the Andanzas collection (no. 503) by Tusquets Editores. This edition includes an epilogue by Francisco Rico.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and for those who want to discover Javier Cercas's beginnings.
Spanish novelist and essayist, author of Soldiers of Salamis, The Anatomy of a Moment and the Terra Alta trilogy.
