«El mal amor» is the novel by Fernando Fernán Gómez, published by Editorial Planeta in hardback (247 pages, in Spanish).
Set in medieval Castile, it follows a carousing, womanizing archpriest whom his uncle, a bishop, locks in a monastery for a year to reflect on his dissolute life. Living with monastic discipline and his own contradictions gives rise to an ironic story about love and desire.
It belongs to the Premio Planeta Collection and was a finalist for the Premio Planeta in 1987.
