«El mal amor» is the humorous novel by Fernando Fernán Gómez, published by Editorial Planeta in hardback (247 pages, in Spanish).
An archpriest of dissolute life, locked up by his uncle, the bishop, in a monastery, gives shape to the story of Count don Sancho. His wife and his daughter doña Mencía return from Provence with knights and with the fashion of courtly love, which unsettles the court and causes entanglements. The medieval plot reflects with irony conflicts of all eras.
Originally published in 1987, it was a finalist for the Planeta Prize that year and belongs to the collection of that prize.
Intended for readers of historical fiction with humor and irony and for those who know the narrative of Fernando Fernán Gómez.

Fernando Fernández Gómez, better known as Fernando Fernán Gómez, was a Spanish actor, screenwriter, film director, theater director, novelist, and playwright. Prolific in all these fields, he was elected member of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1998. He was born in Lima, Peru while his mother, Spanish actress Carola Fernán-Gómez, was making a tour in Latin America. He would later use her surname for his stage name when he moved to Spain in 1924.
