«El húsar» is the historical novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte published by Ediciones Akal in paperback (176 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Andalusia in 1808, during the Peninsular War, it tells the story of Frederic Glüntz, a young sub-lieutenant in Napoleon's army who arrives at his regiment on the eve of battle. The campaign against guerrillas and peasants has little in common with the lessons of the academy, and violence confronts him with his moral contradictions.
Novel originally published in 1986; this 1993 edition is the second and belongs to Akal's Novela collection (no. 16).
For readers of historical fiction and the Peninsular War, as well as for those who want to discover Arturo Pérez-Reverte's first novel.
