Synopsis of El escándalo
El escándalo es una novela del escritor español Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, publicada en 1875. La historia sigue a Fabián Conde, un joven aristócrata que, tras una vida de vicios, encuentra el arrepentimiento y decide cambiar su vida gracias al amor de Gabriela. Sin embargo, su pasado lo persigue cuando Gregoria, la esposa de su mejor amigo, intenta calumniarlo, poniendo a prueba su fe y determinación. Con la ayuda de un padre jesuita, Manrique, Fabián lucha por redimirse y salvar su honor.

Pedro Antonio de Alarcón
Pedro Antonio de Alarcón y Ariza was a nineteenth-century Spanish novelist, known best for his novel El sombrero de tres picos (1874), an adaptation of popular traditions which provides a description of village life in Alarcón's native region of Andalusia. It was the basis for Hugo Wolf's opera Der Corregidor (1897); for Riccardo Zandonai's opera La farsa amorosa (1933); and Manuel de Falla's ballet The Three-Cornered Hat (1919).
