«El árbol de los cuentos» is the short-story collection by Luis Mateo Díez, published by Alfaguara in paperback (584 pages, in Spanish).
The book brings together stories written between 1973 and 2004, selected by Luis Mateo Díez himself. The narratives move between the everyday and the imaginary, with memory, identity and time as guiding threads; their characters and settings draw on oral tradition and a lyrical gaze that probes the human condition.
The work was published in 2006 within Alfaguara's Hispánica series. Luis Mateo Díez received the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas in 2020.
It will appeal to readers of literary fiction and short stories, especially those who appreciate contemporary Spanish narrative and the work of Luis Mateo Díez.
