«Dorsvloer vol confetti» is the novel by Franca Treur, published by Prometheus in paperback (219 pages, in Dutch).
Katelijne, twelve years old, the only daughter among six brothers, grows up in a family of Reformed farmers in Zeeland in the 1980s and 1990s. Excluded from the men's tasks and conversations, she takes refuge in stories: the Bible, conversion narratives, gossip and books; she secretly reads forbidden tales. Her words end up affecting her family.
The novel received the Selexyz Debuutprijs in 2010 and was nominated for the Publieksprijs voor het Nederlandse Boek.
For readers of contemporary fiction and coming-of-age stories set in rural and religious communities.
