«Don Juan / El avaro» is the theatre volume bringing together two plays by Molière, published by Espasa-Calpe in paperback (306 pages, in Spanish).
It brings together two plays by Molière. «Don Juan» draws on the Hispanic myth to portray a seducer, atheist and defiant before authority and death, in a work banned by censorship for almost a hundred and sixty years. «El avaro» is a corrosive portrait of avarice: a father and his son vie for the same woman and greed destroys feelings.
It belongs to the Austral Collection, number 430. Edited and translated by Mauro Armiño, who renders «Dom Juan» and «L'avare» into Spanish.
Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, was a French playwright, actor, and poet, widely regarded as one of the great writers in the French language and world literature. His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the "language of Molière".
