«Die Selbstmord-Schwestern» is the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides, published by Rowohlt Verlag GmbH in hardback (250 pages, in German).
On a residential street in North America in the early seventies, a group of boys watches the five Lisbon sisters. When the youngest throws herself out of the window, the neighbours reconstruct the so-called «year of the suicides» through memories and clues. The novel portrays adolescence, memory and desire with a macabre and lyrical tone.
It is the German translation of «The Virgin Suicides» (1993); this revised edition (Überarb. Neuausgabe) came out in 2004.
For readers of literary fiction and coming-of-age stories with a disturbing and reflective tone.

Jeffrey Kent Eugenides is an American author. He has written numerous short stories and essays, as well as three novels: The Virgin Suicides (1993), Middlesex (2002), and The Marriage Plot (2011). The Virgin Suicides served as the basis of the 1999 film of the same name, while Middlesex received the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in addition to being a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the International Dublin Literary Award, and France's Prix Médicis.
