«Die Mandel» is Nedjma’s erotic novel, published by Droemer Knaur in 2006 in paperback, in German.
Badra, a young Muslim woman trapped in a forced marriage, flees to Tangier and takes refuge in the home of her uncle’s eccentric ex-wife. There she begins to talk about her sexual history and to consider how she wants to live: she remembers her adolescent curiosity and embarks on a passionate relationship with a high-society doctor.
Subtitled «Die intime Geschichte einer arabischen Frau», it was originally published as «L’Amande» in 2004; this German edition was translated from French by Eliane Hagedorn and Bettina Runge.
Aimed at readers interested in contemporary erotic literature and in depictions of female sexuality in Islamic contexts.
