«Désert» is the novel by J. M. G. Le Clézio, published by Folio in paperback (438 pages, in French).
The novel alternates two stories: the journey of Nour, a teenager of the Blue Men who flees across the Sahara before French colonisation, and the life of Lalla, a descendant of those nomads, raised in a shantytown in Morocco and exiled in Marseille. Both plots explore memory, resistance and the bond with the desert.
The novel won the Grand Prix Paul-Morand of the Académie française in 1980 and this edition is volume 1670 of the Folio collection. J. M. G. Le Clézio received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2008.
For readers of French literature and of novels that combine history, identity and resistance.
