«Der Teufelskreis» is the historical novel by Ingeborg Bayer, published by Arena Verlag GmbH in paperback (140 pages, in German).
A sixteen-year-old orphan in seventeenth-century Strasbourg discovers that his mother and little sister were burned at the stake accused of witchcraft. The novel portrays the climate of fear, injustice and superstition of the witch hunt, and the young man's struggle to learn the truth.
The volume closes with an informative appendix on the history of witchcraft and witch-hunt trials.
Aimed at a young audience, it combines historical setting with a mystery plot and denunciation of unreason.
