«De la Ceca a la Meca» is the anthology of stories and approaches to the Islamic world by Juan Goytisolo, published by Alfaguara in hardback (280 pages, in Spanish).
This volume brings together a selection of texts arising from the television project Alqibla, coordinated by the author, which was broadcast between the late eighties and early nineties. Against the stereotypes and legends that have surrounded Islam, Goytisolo offers images and reflections on history, culture and travel aimed at broadening the view of Western and non-Western audiences about that civilisation. The book also connects with the Mudéjar tradition and with the writer's literary creation.
The work includes part of Alqibla I, broadcast by TVE, of Alqibla II and of Alqibla III, which was never made. Published in 1997.
Recommended for readers interested in the essay, Islamic culture and the work of Juan Goytisolo.
