«Das Handwerk des Teufels» is the novel by Donald Ray Pollock, published by Heyne Verlag in paperback (302 pages, in German).
In a remote region of Ohio in the early sixties, the paths of a pair of serial killers, two religious fanatics, a corrupt sheriff and a disillusioned young man end up crossing. Donald Ray Pollock composes a nocturnal and ruthless vision of rural America, crossed by violence and a sickly religiosity.
The German edition, published in 2013, is translated by Peter Torberg; the original novel, «The Devil All the Time», was published in 2011.
A read for fans of thrillers and Southern Gothic who value raw stories, set in rural America and without kind endings.
