«Dans la baie fauve» is the novel by Sara Baume, published by Noir sur Blanc in paperback (304 pages, in French).
Ray, 57, and Borgne, a small dog barely good for ratting, are two misfits who find in each other an inseparable companion. The inhabitants of a coastal village separate them, seeing them as a threat. This atypical love story, lasting four seasons, shows the destruction that solitude imposes.
The work was originally published in English as 'Spill Simmer Falter Wither', with French translation by France Camus-Pichon. The novel won the Rooney Prize and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize.
For readers of contemporary literary fiction and stories about dogs and solitude.
