«Cuentos de los días raros» is the short story collection by José María Merino, published by Alfaguara in paperback (232 pages, in Spanish).
Fifteen stories turn the everyday into a territory of the strange: a professor grows uneasy about the artificial intelligence he helps create, an executive finds his way back to the fantasy novels of his adolescence, and a Beatles song opens another universe. There are also time travels, metamorphoses, and revelations of memory.
Published in 2004, the volume belongs to Alfaguara's Hispánica collection. José María Merino received the Premio Nacional de las Letras in 2021.
For adult readers interested in the literary short story and contemporary fantastic fiction.
