«Crematorio» is the novel by Rafael Chirbes published by Editorial Anagrama in 2007 in paperback, with 424 pages in Spanish.
The death of Matías Bertomeu, a retired former ideologue, uncovers lives built on money and guilt: Rubén, an unscrupulous builder; Silvia, a restorer; Juan, a university professor; Ramón, a trusted man; Traian, a Russian partner, and Mónica, a young wife. Chirbes paints a tableau of corruption, property speculation and the destruction of the coastline, with family and sex as commodities.
It belongs to the Narrativas hispánicas collection, number 418. It won the Premio de la Crítica and the Premio Cálamo in 2007, and the Premio Dulce Chacón and the Premio de la Crítica Valenciana in 2008.
