Civilizaciones

Synopsis of Civilizaciones

In 'Civilizations,' Felipe Fernández-Armesto presents a comparative analysis of civilizations through various habitats. From the river civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Nile to the island and maritime cultures, the author explores how societies adapt and transform their environment. Fernández-Armesto argues that civilization is not based on political or religious structures, but on the cultural capacity to modify the environment, domesticating climate, geography, and ecology. This innovative approach organizes comparative history by environments, offering a unique perspective on human cultural diversity.
