«Cinquième chronique du règne de Nicolas Ier» is Patrick Rambaud's satirical chronicle, published by Grasset in paperback (193 pages, in French).
Satirical chronicle of Nicolas Sarkozy's presidency, treated as a monarch of a Versailles-style court, with public figures turned courtiers and economic crisis in the background. The style parodies the chroniclers of Louis XIV, La Bruyère and Saint-Simon, and the narrative opens with a crowd shouting «¡Dégagez, Sire!» before the castle gates.
Fifth instalment of the series «Chroniques du règne de Nicolas Ier», published in 2012.
For readers of political satire and critical humour, especially those following the figure of Nicolas Sarkozy or seventeenth-century French moralist prose.
