«Black Beauty: A Chinese English Translation» is Anna Sewell's juvenile novel, in a bilingual Chinese-English edition, paperback, 412 pages.
Narrated in the first person by the horse himself, the story follows a beautiful black specimen from his early years in a comfortable home to his passage through various owners in nineteenth-century England. Among them are people who mistreat him and others who care for him, and the novel uses these experiences to advocate for kindness, empathy, and respect towards animals.
It belongs to the series «Bilingual Masterpieces Accessible Reading Series», with vocabulary annotations; published in 2016 by China Translation and Publishing Ltd.
Aimed at students of English and Chinese, as well as readers who wish to enjoy a classic of juvenile literature in a bilingual edition with vocabulary support.

Anna Sewell was an English novelist who is known for her only book, Black Beauty, a novel about a horse. She was born into a Quaker family in Norfolk and moved to London as a baby. Her mother, Mary Wright Sewell, was the author of popular children's books. Sewell never married and always lived with her parents, in Sussex, Gloucestershire and Norfolk. A chronic illness left her leading a life of invalidism, with trips to spa resorts in England and continental Europe. She joined her mother in carrying out charitable work and also edited her mother's books. Black Beauty was written between 1871 and 1877 and published a few months before Sewell's death.
