«Bas les masques !» is the novel by Alain Monnier with illustrations by Isabelle Maroger, published by Flammarion in paperback (160 pages, in French).
Starting from Molière's Tartuffe, Alain Monnier imagines what hypocrisies the playwright would denounce today. Chloé, a determined young woman, wants to take over her grandfather's farm, but her plans clash with the interests of neighbours willing to do anything to stop her. The novel is a corrosive satire on greed and falseness, with humour and wit.
The cover, in cartoon style, shows a young red-haired woman pushing a wheelbarrow; Isabelle Maroger is credited as illustrator and the edition was published on 19 June 2019.
For readers looking for a social satire with humour, a female protagonist and references to Molière.
