«Antologia di Spoon River» is a poetry anthology by Edgar Lee Masters, published by Einaudi in paperback (126 pages, in Italian).
The collection brings together fictional epitaphs of the inhabitants of Spoon River, a small imaginary town, and through them composes a choral portrait of the community. The monologues reveal ordinary lives, grudges, loves and contradictions, and through the voices of the dead emerge hypocrisy, death and social injustice.
The original collection was published in 1915. This 1985 Italian edition belongs to the series «Letture per la scuola media» (no. 71), with translation by F. Pivano and editing by R. Bernascone.

Edgar Lee Masters was an American attorney, poet, biographer, and dramatist. He is the author of Spoon River Anthology (1915), The New Star Chamber and Other Essays, Songs and Satires, The Great Valley, The Serpent in the Wilderness, An Obscure Tale, The Spleen, Mark Twain: A Portrait, Lincoln: The Man, and Illinois Poems. In all, Masters published twelve plays, twenty-one books of poetry, six novels and six biographies, including those of Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Vachel Lindsay, and Walt Whitman.
