«Amulet» is the novel by Roberto Bolaño published by Pan Macmillan in 2010 in paperback, in English.
Auxilio Lacouture hides for twelve days in a university lavatory and from there weaves a first-person, semi-hallucinatory account in which she proclaims herself Mother of Mexican poetry. The monologue, peopled with poets, dark prophecies and artists devoured by youth, turns the confinement into a lyrical journey through Mexican literature.
The work was originally published as «Amuleto» (1999); this English edition, translated by Chris Andrews, came out in 2010.
For readers wanting a brief first approach to Bolaño's narrative before «2666».
