«Alves y Compañía» is the novel by Eça de Queirós, published by Alba Editorial in paperback (126 pages, in Spanish).
The prosperous commission agent Godofredo da Conceição Alves returns home on the day of his fourth wedding anniversary with a gift for his wife, and finds her in a compromising situation with his young partner Machado. From there, Eça de Queirós develops a satire of bourgeois dignity and conjugal honour, with irony and disillusionment.
The work belongs to the Clásica collection from Alba Editorial and includes the translation by Javier Coca and Raquel R. Aguilera.
It will appeal to readers of classic fiction, Portuguese literature and social satire.
José Maria de Eça de Queiroz or Queirós is generally considered to have been the greatest Portuguese writer in the realist style. Zola considered him to be far greater than Flaubert. In the London Observer, Jonathan Keates ranked him alongside Dickens, Balzac and Tolstoy.
