«Al morir don Quijote» is the novel by Andrés Trapiello, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback (416 pages, in Spanish).
The action begins in October 1614, when Alonso Quijano dies accompanied by his niece, the housekeeper and Sancho Panza. Trapiello gives voice to those who surrounded him to reconstruct the character, and the narrative continues with humour and adventure. It is a literary variation on the Quijote that serves as a tribute to Cervantes.
In 2005 it received the Premio Fundación José Manuel Lara and the Prix Littéraire Européen Madeleine Zepter. The cover indicates it is the 6th edition.
For readers of contemporary fiction and for those who want to reconnect with the world of the Quijote after Cervantes's novel.
Andrés Trapiello is a noted Spanish poet and writer. He was born in Manzaneda de Torío, León, and studied at the University of Valladolid. He moved to Madrid in 1975, and has lived in the capital ever since.
