«42e parallèle» is the novel by John Dos Passos, published by Folio in paperback (512 pages, in French).
Interweaving the lives of characters from very different social backgrounds, the narrative alternates fiction with press headlines, satirical sketches of famous figures, and lyrical fragments. In this way it composes an «inhuman comedy» that portrays the restlessness of a United States at the beginning of the twentieth century in full transformation.
First volume of the U.S.A. Trilogy, in French translation by Norbert Guterman; number 1694 in the Folio collection, published in 1986.
For readers of classic American fiction and works that experiment with novelistic structure.
John Roderigo Dos Passos was an American novelist, most notable for his U.S.A. trilogy. He was a descendant of the Lee family of Virginia.
