Sara Wheeler was born in Bristol and studied Classics and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford.
She was the first female writer-in-residence selected by the US National Science Foundation to visit the South Pole.
During her seven-month stay in Antarctica, she slept in the captain’s bunk at Scott's Hut.
