Rachna Gilmore was a Canadian children's writer. Her picture book A Screaming Kind of Day won the 1999 Governor General's Award for Children's Literature.

Rachna Gilmore was born in India and built her literary career as a prominent Canadian writer.

Her most acclaimed work, Lights for Gita, remains a cornerstone of her bibliography.

Throughout her career, she published a total of 25 books primarily for young readers.

Her writing focused on juvenile fiction and the creation of picture books for children.

The author dedicated her life to literature until her passing in February 2021.
