Francesco Maria Piave was an Italian opera librettist who was born in Murano in the lagoon of Venice, during the brief Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy.

Francesco Maria Piave was born on the historic island of Murano in 1810.

He is world-renowned for being the librettist of the famous opera Rigoletto.

His prolific career includes the creation of 63 works focused primarily on the opera genre.

In addition to being a librettist, he excelled as a journalist, translator, playwright, and opera director.
