Biography

Peter Arthur Firmin was an English artist and puppet maker. He was the founder of Smallfilms, along with Oliver Postgate. Between them they created a number of popular children's TV programmes, The Saga of Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, Clangers, Bagpuss and Pogles' Wood.

Peter Firmin was a prolific British artist who excelled as an illustrator, character designer, and puppet maker.

Throughout his career, he created over one hundred works dedicated primarily to children's literature and fiction.

His imagination brought endearing animal characters to life, with foxes and moles being recurring themes in his stories.

Beyond his work on paper, Firmin also explored the audiovisual world by working as a film director.

His most notable work, Now and Then, reflects the artistic sensibility that defined his entire creative journey.
